Tips when buying Firewood
Always check the sizes of the bulk bags, some suppliers may appear to be cheaper but the bags may be smaller, our bulk bags are the bigger 90cm x 90cm bags.
Check that the prices include VAT, some suppliers add it on at the checkout, we show the price you pay.
The best tip is to always buy British, locally sourced from legally managed forests in the UK, sustainable and Ready to Burn Accredited firewood – you can check for Accredited Suppliers in your area on the HETAS website – Please click here >>>>
We process and kiln dry our logs here on site so we can guarantee the quality and the moisture content of all of our firewood. Ask your supplier where their firewood is from, if it’s in a crate and sold as individual species ie Birch, Oak etc, it’s likely to have come from Eastern Europe – now how can that be sustainable?
Sustainability is priority to many of our customers, alongside legality and quality assurance.
The importance of buying Ready to Burn certified firewood
Under the Air Quality (Domestic Solid Fuels Standards) (England) Regulations 2020 that now apply in England, wood fuel sold in volumes under 2m³ MUST be certified as “Ready to Burn”.
The Department for Environment, Food & Rural Affairs (Defra) Ready to Burn certification scheme is run by HETAS and Woodsure, both not-for-profit organisations supporting cleaner and safer choices for the use of biomass and other solid fuels, appliances and associated technologies.
Woodsure has been championing the use of less polluting dry wood which is verified by its independent inspectors as having a moisture content of 20% or less, meaning it burns with less smoke than wetter wood.
The legislation states you can only supply or sell wood fuel in volumes of less than 2 cubic metres if it is certified as ‘Ready to Burn’. This confirms it has a moisture content of 20% or less.
The Ready to Burn certification scheme applies to:
Firewood in single retail bags
Firewood supplied as a bulk delivery in loose volumes of less than 2 cubic metres
Wood briquettes in single retail bags
Wood briquettes supplied as a bulk delivery in loose volumes of less than 2 cubic metres
Using dry, Ready to Burn wood, logs & briquettes improves the efficiency of any appliance. It is a simple step to reduce your impact on the environment.
Wet wood creates smoke and particulates that are harmful to your health and the environment. It will also damage your stove and chimney and is an inefficient way to heat your home.

Why we don’t sell logs by individual species:
All of our kiln dried hardwood & softwood logs are sustainably sourced from British woodlands. This means that the amount of each species we take in each load can vary.
We do not separate our logs by individual species, we separate them into hardwood species and softwood species.
A lot of companies selling logs in individual species, such as a crate of Birch, will be selling logs imported from other countries, such as Lithuania. Meaning those logs will have travelled many miles before reaching the customer.
We source our logs as locally as possible and only ever from sustainable woodlands, meaning the woodlands and the wildlife are responsibly managed and will continue to exist for future generations.
Our processes ensure that we produce the very best quality, sustainable, Woodsure approved, ready to burn logs.
Happy eco system & happy customers.
